VIN check in Germany

Buying a used car in Germany? A large share of the cars on sale here were bought damaged at a US or Canadian auction, shipped over, repaired and put back on the market. Enter the VIN to see the photos taken the day that car crossed the auction block — the damage, the odometer reading and the title brand recorded then, before anyone repainted anything.

What to check before you pay

  1. 01Odometer — a car exported with 180,000 miles can be advertised here with 90,000. The auction record shows the reading on sale day.
  2. 02Accident damage — repaired panels hide what the auction photos show: which side took the hit, whether the airbags fired, how deep it went.
  3. 03Title brand — salvage, flood and total-loss records do not always survive re-registration in a new country. The VIN does.

Auction archive FAQ

How do I check a car before buying it in Germany?

Take the VIN from the windscreen, the door pillar or the registration document and run it here. If the car passed through a US or Canadian auction you get its photos, recorded damage, odometer reading and final bid.

The seller says the car was never in an accident. Can I verify that?

Yes — if it was sold at auction, the listing photos and the recorded damage type are in the archive, regardless of what the car looks like today in Germany.

What if the VIN is not in the archive?

Then that car has no US or Canadian auction record we hold, which is itself useful to know. The full history report also covers accidents, ownership and odometer readings reported outside the auction lanes.
